Information and Analysis

Up until recently I did not have any interest in the financial domain of stock markets, securities and risc management but because I started a job in the IT department of a bank I thought it would be a good idea to know a bit more about the business background of a bank. Therefore I started to read a book about how to read, understand and use finanical news (Finanznachrichten lesen, verstehen, nutzen).

After this first introduction into the field I became more interested and wanted to know more about how to analyse stock markets with statistical methods and how to judge the risc / chance that a given equity offers you. I was especially interested in the question if there were already some books out there which would cover these topics from a physicists point of view and I was able to find some really good books on the topic:

Currently, after reading all that, I am at the point where I would like to use my knowledge in real world. Therefore an automated and convenient way to analyse data and to visualise the results is needed and this is the starting point for the Open Java Trading System. This project is mainly meant to implement my ideas in executable code but besides that I also intend to use it as a platform for documenting ideas and insights.

A third topic I got interested in is how our German tax system treats the different possibilities of private people to invest their money. But this is a different story not to be discuessed here :)

I hope I could wetten your appetite. Feel free to download the code on SourceForge and perhaps you even feel like contributing to the project.
